Molybdenum isotopes have several practical applications, most commonly molybdenum-99 as a component in various medical procedures. Molybdenum is used in the manufacture of lubricants and chemicals, as well as inhibitors against corrosion, as a catalyst, in paint pigment and as a fire and smoke retardant. In the form of molybdenum disulfide, it helps form a dry lubricant for use with space vehicles and, as a pure metal, to form parts within a furnace and as a metal-working die.
